Protests Rock Mukurwe-ini After MP Kaguchia’s Dramatic Arrest On Monday
Demonstrations have erupted in Gikondi, Mukurwe-ini Constituency, following the dramatic arrest of their MP, John Kaguchi at Royal Media Service (RMS) offices in Nairobi on the morning of August 3.
Footage shared online shows hundreds of protesters holding placards and twigs, chanting after their MP was involved in a dramatic arrest on the morning of August 3 outside Citizen TV Studios.
They are demanding not only the unconditional release of their MP, John Kaguchi, but also the dropping of all charges leveled against him.
“We are telling you, President William Ruto, you must release our MP unconditionally; this country belongs to all of us, and we are not going to be intimidated,” one protester stated.
The protests have since been peaceful, with no security officers seen at the scene.
After his early-morning arrest by officers linked to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), he went missing for a moment, but it was later established that he had been taken to Kamukunji Police Station.
His legal counsel revealed that the reasons for his arrest have yet to be disclosed by the authorities.
However, the family of the troubled legislator was given a chance to see him behind bars, even as they wait for the way forward from the authorities.

Politicians allied to the United Opposition, especially the Wiper Party and the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), expressed concerns regarding the circumstances that surrounded his arrest.
This is after ununiformed and heavily armed officers camped outside RMS offices the whole night in the events leading to his arrest.
DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua took to social media, describing the incident as unfortunate, while accusing President William Ruto of perpetuating the vice of unlawful arrests.
Gachagua likened it to tactics used by “outgoing, cowardly regimes” to manage political dissent through the criminal justice system.
He argued Kaguchia’s arrest would only harden supporters’ resolve and elevate the MP’s standing within their political camp, echoing the backlash pattern he described.
“The overnight harassment and early morning arrest of Hon. John Kaguchia today only strengthen the resolve of our supporters and elevate his standing within our leadership hierarchy,” Gachagua stated.
He confirmed legal efforts are underway to secure Kaguchia’s release on bond ahead of his arraignment on August 4.
