UNITED NO MORE! Opposition Rift Deepens As Munya Brands Gachagua A “Bully”
Cracks within the Opposition have continued to widen ahead of the 2027 General Election after Party of National Unity (PNU) leader Peter Munya launched a fresh attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Munya accused Gachagua of being a bully and warning against what he termed dictatorial leadership tendencies.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Wednesday night, Munya claimed Gachagua had developed a pattern of intimidating fellow leaders and using disrespectful language, saying such conduct was undermining efforts to build a united Opposition.
“Gachagua is a bully. You saw when he talked about the Governor of Murang’a, calling him ‘kiherehere’, and the governor was attacked by goons when he went to Ol Kalou,” Munya said.
“We think he needs to act more responsibly when dealing with leaders and all human beings. Use your language more courteously, and you’ll go further than you have gone.”
The former Cabinet Secretary further urged Gachagua to exercise humility, saying respect was critical in building political alliances, particularly in the Mt Kenya region where different leaders commanded significant support.
He also accused the DCP party boss of sidelining leaders from the Mt Kenya region, insisting that Meru remained one of the region’s largest voting blocs and deserved equal respect in Opposition politics.
“Humble yourself and address other people with respect. Embrace a structured way of dealing with issues,” he added.
“Look at Meru. Apart from Kiambu and Nyeri, we are one of the biggest voting blocs in the region and, as such, you should not dismiss us and start treating us as children.”
Munya, who served as Agriculture CS in the Jubilee administration, however, declined to describe Gachagua as the Mt Kenya political kingpin.
He insisted that there was no such official position despite acknowledging that the former DP remained an influential leader.

He also cast doubt on Gachagua’s presidential ambitions, saying he would not support him for the country’s top seat because his leadership style mirrored the authoritarian tendencies many Kenyans were seeking to move away from.
The latest criticism comes days after Gachagua faulted PNU’s performance in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, claiming the party secured only 28 votes because it had failed to campaign effectively.
It also follows a recent dispute after Gachagua urged smaller Opposition parties to dissolve and merge with his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
Although he later clarified that his remarks had been misunderstood, the proposal sparked resistance from several Mt Kenya leaders.
The developments come as criticism of Gachagua continues to mount within the Opposition.
Recently, Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi urged him to stop intimidating leaders into backing his political agenda.
