Safari Train Resumes Service After A 7-Day Disruption – Kenya Railways

On Wednesday, January 22, the Kenya Railways Corporation stated that the Nanyuki Train Service would resume.

The railway operator confirmed in a statement that the Nanyuki train had resumed its normal schedule following a week-long disruption.

“We wish to inform members of the public that the Nanyuki Safari Train has resumed service as per the normal schedule,” Kenya Railways stated.

“The train will depart from Nairobi Central Station for Nanyuki every Friday at 9:00 am and make its return trip from Nanyuki to Nairobi every Sunday at 9:00 am,” the statement further added.

Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) announced a disruption that would make the Nanyuki service train inaccessible on Friday, January 17.

This came when a portion of the railway line was stopped, preventing trains from moving between Nairobi and Nanyuki.

“We wish to inform members of the public that the Nanyuki Safari train will not run on Friday, January 17, 2025,” Kenya Railways announced.

“This is due to a blockage on a section of the line, which is hindering the movement of trains between Nairobi and Nanyuki,” it noted.

However, the railway service did not reveal the source of the obstruction or the nature of the problem affecting the railway line.

The disruption of the Nanyuki train frustrated Kenyans who had planned to travel over the weekend.

KRC attempted to calm the public by claiming that a crew had been dispatched to conduct line repairs in order to ensure that service could be restored as soon as possible.

The news came after a number of recent service delays that the authority had already communicated about, which affected important routes.

The authority warned commuters on December 19, 2024, that commuter trains planned to run between December 23, 2024, and January 5, 2025, would be suspended.

The stoppage had an impact on the Nairobi Commuter Train Service, which serves estates and centres throughout the Nairobi Metropolitan Area.
