Gov’t Issues Notice To Teachers On Fresh CBC Training
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has encouraged interested teaching professionals to apply for training in the preparation of quality test items for the successful implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
In the April 2 notification, KNEC stated that these skills would be essential for instructors at the primary, junior, and senior school levels, as well as in teacher training.
“The Council wishes to invite qualified teachers and teacher educators to apply for training in the development of quality test items for effective implementation of Competency Based Assessment in basic education and teacher training levels,” part of the notice read.
“Trained teachers and teacher educators could be engaged by KNEC as contracted professionals from time to time as may be necessary.”
KNEC indicated that once trained, teachers and teacher educators will be able to be contracted on an as-needed basis.

Qualifications for individuals interested include undeniable and irreproachable integrity, as well as being a professional, expert, or topic specialist in the field for which they seek to be trained.
It is only eligible to instructors in primary school grades 4, 5, and 6, junior school grades 7 and 8, and those presently teaching in secondary school who will teach senior school grade 10 in 2026.
Those who teach in teacher training colleges for the Diploma in Teacher Education—Pre-Primary and Primary (DTE-PP&P) and Diploma in Secondary Teacher Training (DSTE) programs are also eligible to apply.
Also, those in Stage-Based Pathways (Foundation, Intermediate, or Prevocational Levels).
In addition, they should have the required academic and professional degrees, as well as knowledge of the curriculum designs in their specialty fields.

They need also have at least three years of teaching experience, be registered with the Teachers Service Commission, and be recommended by the institution’s head.
How to Apply:
- All applications should be done online through the KNEC website by April 11.
- Applicants should read the instructions, provide all the information required, and upload the necessary documents.
- Documents should be uploaded as one continuous PDF document.
- Only successful applicants will be notified through their phone or email contacts provided.
- Teachers who have previously been trained by KNEC in item writing should not apply.
- The training will be conducted online.
