Another Kenyan Woman Arrested In India With Ksh300 Million Worth of Cocaine

A 43-year-old Kenyan woman has been caught by Indian customs for smuggling 1.7 kilogrammes of cocaine worth Ksh225 million to Ksh300 million (Rs 15 to 20 crores).

Acting on intelligence, authorities nabbed the Kenyan woman when she arrived at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Tuesday.

She was flying illegal narcotics from Nairobi to Delhi through Doha.

According to The Indian Express, the woman was detained and questioned after customs agents discovered four packages containing a powdered substance in her baggage.

A field test later determined that the substance was drugs.

Officials indicated that the entire weight of the contraband was 1,789 grams, valued at between Ksh225 million and Ksh300 million (Rs 15 to 20 crores), depending on quality.

According to official sources, the accused stowed the contraband in her trolley bag after leaving her flight.

Following an interrogation, she was detained under relevant parts of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for smuggling commercial quantities of illegal narcotics.

During interrogation, she revealed that another woman handed over the package to her in Nairobi and promised to pay her Ksh100,000 (equal to INR 66,110) if the contraband was successfully delivered to her friend in Delhi.

Meanwhile, customs officers are investigating her travel history to determine whether she has previously sneaked narcotics or other forbidden things into India.

The arrest comes less than a month after Kenyan native Margaret Nduta’s story gained attention, as she faces execution in Vietnam for drug trafficking.

On March 6, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court sentenced Nduta to death, reaffirming the country’s strong stance against drug-related offenses.

The government is attempting to repatriate Nduta to serve her sentence in Kenya, sending a delegation to negotiate her release.

No progress has been announced, however Nduta has filed an appeal against her execution sentence.
