UDA Dismisses Gachagua’s Resignation, Terms it Null And Void
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has rejected former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s resignation letter from the ruling party as null and void.
UDA declared his resignation null and void, citing Gachagua’s dismissal as deputy party leader following his impeachment, which automatically terminated his membership in the party.

They made this announcement a few hours after Gachagua’s letter announcing his departure from President William Ruto’s party.
“The ruling party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA), officially removed one, Rigathi Gachagua, as its Deputy Party Leader, which automatically revoked his membership,” part of the statement.
“Today’s long paragraphs and ‘exit’ from the party amount to mere theatrics, hence, inconsequential!”
It continued: “Furthermore, the custodian of political parties’ membership is the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), and that’s where the resignation ought to have been directed. It is null and void!”

On January 22, the party announced a change in its deputy party leader, appointing Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to replace Gachagua.
According to the letter, the decision was made during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on November 11, 2024.
Seven months after his impeachment, Gachagua announced his resignation from the party in a letter, which the ruling party has dismissed as insignificant.
“By a copy of this letter, you are notified that I have officially resigned from the UDA Party with immediate effect,” Gachagua said in his letter.

In his letter, Gachagua explained his departure, alleging that the Kenya Kwanza administration had failed in its responsibility to keep campaign pledges to Kenyans.
He highlighted the party’s campaign promises of ensuring national unity, prosperity, justice, and economic inclusion, claiming that these had been supplanted with “retrogressive philosophy”.
He also referred to the five pillars of the Kenya Kwanza development model — agriculture, MSMEs, housing, healthcare, and the digital economy — as “centres of crime with no tangible gains”.
He also claimed to have failed in agriculture, healthcare, and housing.
