Gachagua Exposes Ruto-Man’s Plans After Arrest Of Rose Njeri

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sharply criticized Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, accusing him of aiming to suppress opposition ahead of the Finance Bill 2025.

In a long statement released on Monday, June 2, Gachagua cited the recent case of Rose Njeri as a prime example of the government’s purported use of fear and intimidation to suppress individuals who oppose the law.

“Rather than embracing dialogue and reforms, the government is escalating its crackdown on dissent, using fear and intimidation to silence those who speak out. Especially as the new Finance Bill approaches,” Gachagua claimed.

Njeri was arrested on Sunday, May 30, after developing an internet platform to facilitate objections to the Finance Bill.

Kenyans have criticized the activist’s apprehension, with Gachagua now commenting on Njeri’s plight, alleging that the government intended to suppress the young generation’s daring.

“This is not just an attack on Rose. It is a continuation of the attack on the youth of this country,” the former DP went on.

“It is an attempt to stifle their courage, their innovative spirit, and their belief in the power of their own voices.”

According to Gachagua, Rose’s latest arrest was simply one of several measures by the administration to gain an advantage over its detractors.

The former DP was also scathing of CS Murkomen’s recent statements advocating for legislation to ban faking disappearances.

On May 31, Murkomen replied to overwhelming evidence that besieged Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi staged his own disappearance before reappearing days later.

While pointing out the lack of regulations governing staged kidnappings, the CS urged the National Assembly to act promptly to pass legislation holding those involved accountable.

According to Gachagua, the CS’s recommendations to outlaw fake disappearances were a deliberate attempt to discourage the efforts of citizens from speaking out against injustice.

“This is not just a policy proposal. It is a calculated move to outlaw victims and those who speak out against injustice,” Gachagua said.

“If the state can so easily lie and dismiss disappearances as hoaxes and then prosecute those who expose the truth, what recourse remains for the victims and their families?”

The former DP advised the young to be steadfast in their fight to have their views heard and demanded Njeri’s unconditional release.
