Following the failed attempt to carry out the much-publicized party launch, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has launched a nationwide mobilisation campaign.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s party declared a broad grassroots strategy to increase its influence across the country in a statement issued following its first National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the party headquarters.

The party’s planned launch at the Kasarani Sports Centre was canceled since the venue’s administration allegedly cancelled the reservation.

This prompted the National Executive Committee to hold its first meeting since the party’s official founding on May 17.

Following the cancellation, DCP asked its Secretary General, Cleophas Malala, to find a private venue where the party could host the event by the end of June.

After a venue has been secured, a new launch date will be notified.

“Consequently, NEC directed the Secretary General to source an alternative and suitable private venue for the party launch within the month of June, 2025; once this is identified and agreed upon, we shall communicate to our party members and supporters accordingly,” DCP revealed in a statement.

The party’s NEC has planned an aggressive mobilisation strategy, beginning with the employment of interim county coordinators to assist in the establishment of county and constituency offices around the country.

According to the party’s statement, grassroots structures will play an important role in establishing a widespread and functional party presence in places where the party does not yet have physical offices.

The party also asked hopefuls interested in running for elective offices on the DCP ticket to contact the party’s headquarters.

In another instruction geared at streamlining operations, DCP stated that all party offices must be approved by the national leadership; else, they will be considered illegal.

Furthermore, the DCP announced intentions to establish aspiring forums in all 47 counties, which will be supervised by newly appointed county leaders.

These events will serve as rallying grounds for political involvement and strategic planning, with only two years until the next general election.
