Kenyan Woman Arrested In India With Cocaine Pellets In Her Stomach

A 43-year-old Kenyan lady was arrested in India on Sunday after reportedly attempting to smuggle cocaine into the nation by swallowing drug pellets.

Authorities claim she was apprehended at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport immediately after landing from Nairobi on Friday morning.

Officers from India’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) tracked and apprehended her as she attempted to pass through the airport with no outward traces of contraband, according to The Indian Express.

A search of her baggage and clothing turned up no drugs, but during interrogation, she reportedly acknowledged ingesting six narcotics-filled pellets.

The DRI then got court consent before admitting her to JJ Hospital for medical assessment and drug extraction.

Medical personnel successfully removed all six capsules from her stomach in pellet form.

Tests revealed that the contents were cocaine, and while the street worth of the drugs was not immediately determined, the contraband was discovered to be 665.5 grams of cocaine.

The suspect was arrested and is now in custody while the investigation continues.

Indian officials are also investigating her local relationships and the smuggling network.

“It appears she was a part of a wider drug smuggling racket operating from Kenya,” an official close to the investigations said.

This event adds to the growing number of drug trafficking cases using African couriers who use India as a transit or destination.

In April of this year, Indian customs agents apprehended another 43-year-old Kenyan woman for smuggling 1.7 kilogrammes of cocaine worth between Ksh225 million and Ksh300 million (Rs 15 to 20 crore).

Following intelligence, officials captured the Kenyan woman, Emily, when she arrived at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

She was flying illegal narcotics from Nairobi to Delhi through Doha.

According to The Indian Express, Emily was detained for interrogation after customs officers discovered four sachets containing a powdered substance in her luggage.

A field test later determined that the substance was drugs.
