Gov’t Goes After Kenya-US Health Deal Whistleblower
Nelson Amenya, an iconic whistleblower, has been sued for fraudulent publishing, just a week after his startling exposé on the Kenya-United States health pact.
On Wednesday, December 10, a group of Community Health Promoters filed a petition asking the vocal activist, among other things, to’stop posting more disinformation’ about the Ksh207 billion health pact between Kenya and the United States.
In its appeal, the CHP accused the whistleblower of allegedly spreading false, misleading, and inflammatory assertions implying that Kenya had handed over control of its health system to a foreign country.
They suggested that as a result of this disinformation, CHPs in many communities have encountered dread, suspicion, anger, and resistance during household visits.
According to the health promoters, routine data gathering has been disrupted, and critical public health activities have been jeopardised, directly endangering their clients’ health and safety.
To prevent further circulation of the alleged false material, the CHPs requested a court order prohibiting Amenya from publishing or spreading the charges.
They also demanded that the whistleblower be forced to remove all alleged false posts about the multibillion-shilling health deal.
The CHPs stated that fulfilling these recommendations will assist in defending Kenyans’ constitutional rights, including the right to health, dignity, and accurate information.
“As Community Health Promoters, we remain deeply committed to serving our communities with integrity and respect. We urge all members of the public to rely on verified, factual information,” the CHPs stated.
The latest development comes a week after Amenya made an explosive exposé on Kenya-U.S. health.

He alleged that President William Ruto’s administration had allowed data sharing of sensitive patient information with the U.S. government.
Taking to his X account on December 2, Amenya claimed that the agreement would grant the U.S. government real-time access to all Kenyan health records.
He further claimed that, under the proposed agreement, disease specimens obtained from Kenyan patients would be shared with around ten U.S. pharmaceutical companies.
