FIFA Breaks Silence On FKF Scandal Involving Suspended President, Issues Way Forward
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) is monitoring proceedings within the Kenyan football hierarchy following the ouster of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed.
Mohammed was suspended over allegations of financial misconduct tied to the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.
In a letter addressed to FKF, FIFA confirmed it is working jointly with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to assess the situation and establish whether due process was followed in the decisions taken by the FKF National Executive Committee on or around April 24, 2026.
“We wish to inform you that FIFA, in coordination with the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), is currently assessing this matter with a view to gaining a clear and accurate understanding of the circumstances surrounding the adoption of the Resolution, as well as its compliance with the FKF Statutes,” the statement read in part.
FIFA further directed FKF to submit a wide range of documents to support its review, including records of how the emergency National Executive Committee meeting was convened, proof of quorum, voting details, and evidence that the affected officials were given a fair opportunity to respond before any action was taken.
The global football body also requested written justification for the suspension decision, alongside all supporting materials, reports, correspondence, and any other documents relied upon by the NEC in reaching its resolution.
FIFA set a deadline of May 1, 2026, for the submission of the requested materials, stating that the information will be used to determine whether FKF acted within its constitutional and governance framework.
Former Inter Milan midfielder Donald Mariga confirmed the developments in a statement on Saturday afternoon during a press conference where he assumed the role of acting president of the FKF.

“It came to our attention from the National Executive Committee (NEC) that there were serious governance, financial and constitutional violations which led to the resolutions passed on April 24,” he added.
Additionally, Mariga confirmed that stringent measures will be taken to preserve evidence, including freezing relevant accounts where Hussein Mohammed is a signatory and reviewing all existing contracts.
