EMURUA DIKIRR: UDA, DCP Supporters Clash During By-Election Voting

One person was injured following a clash between supporters of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) outside Chelemei Polling Station in Kapsasian Ward.

The incident occurred on Thursday, May 14, as residents of Emurua Dikirr headed to the polls, according to Nakuru County Commissioner Reuben Lotiatia.

The two main frontrunners are David Kipsang Keter, popularly known as Dollarline, on the UDA ticket, and Vincent Rotich of the DCP. Keter, a seasoned businessman, is the main contender in the elections.

In the wake of the incident, DCP candidate Keter went to pay the injured person a visit at the hospital.

Further reports indicated that DCP supporters were attacked on their way to polling stations, with their agents denied access before intervention allowed them in, an event that triggered the scuffle.

The by-election was occasioned by the death of former areaĀ MP Johana Ng’eno, who tragically lost his life inĀ a helicopter crash.

Five candidates were cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to contest the seat.

Emurua Dikir will serve as a critical testing ground for Rigathi Gachagua, who is seeking to extend his party’s roots to President William Ruto’s turf, his greatest political rival.

Another main battleground where the two leaders will flex their party’s popularity muscles isĀ Ol Kalou Constituency.

Aspirants from political outfits, such as the DCP’s Sammy Kamau Ngotho, a former Member of the County Assembly (MCA), UDA’s Samuel Muchina Nyaga, and Jubilee’s Wilson Kigwi, are the key contenders.

Earlier, IEBC had issued a raft of warnings, cautioning politicians against orchestrating electoral violence or hiring goons will be disqualified from participating in the 2027 General Election.

IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon confirmedĀ the commission will invoke the Election Offences Act and Electoral Code of Conduct to bar violent offenders at the voter registration stage.

Candidates who breach peace protocols risk immediate campaign suspension, while the IEBC has already demonstrated its zero-tolerance stance by slapping rival candidates with Ksh1 million fines.
