
Trump Names New US Ambassador to Kenya
According to a list of nominations formally presented to the Senate, US President Donald Trump has nominated experienced diplomat Henry Wooster to be the next US Ambassador to Kenya.
Wooster’s nomination, announced on Tuesday, June 2, is part of a new round of diplomatic nominations that the Senate must now confirm before he can officially take his post in Nairobi.
According to the White House, Wooster is a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister-Counsellor, one of the most senior positions in the US diplomatic service.

If confirmed, Wooster will become America’s highest envoy in Kenya at a time when the two countries are deepening bilateral collaboration in a variety of areas.
Wooster brings over three decades of diplomatic and military experience to his new position.
He has held numerous significant roles, including Ambassador to Jordan from 2020 to 2023, where he served under both the Trump and Joe Biden administrations.
Wooster has also previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Maghreb and Egypt, providing strategic direction on U.S. policy in North Africa and the Middle East.

Additionally, he served as the Director for Central Asia at the National Security Council and Foreign Policy Advisor to the Commanding General of the U.S. Joint Special Operations Command.
Wooster’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts from Amherst College and a Master of Arts from Yale University.
If approved by the U.S Senate, Wooster will replace Ambassador Meg Whitman, who concluded her tour of duty in November 2024, days after Trump was elected as the 47th President of the U.S.
Besides Wooster’s nomination to Nairobi, Trump also nominated ambassadors to Egypt, Brazil, Colombia, Serbia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Equatorial Guinea, Indonesia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Paraguay, and Ecuador.
The U.S Senate is expected to review the nominations through the confirmation process, which typically includes committee hearings and a final vote by lawmakers.
