Bolt Kenya Responds To SHUTDOWN Reports

Bolt Kenya continues to operate and has no intentions to close in the coming week, according to the firm.

In a statement, Dimmy Kanyankole, Bolt Senior General Manager for East Africa, denied a viral letter claiming that the firm planned to cease operations on Monday, June 8.

“We wish to categorically state that this document is FAKE and did not originate from Bolt Kenya or any of its authorised representatives,” Kanyankole stated on June 1.

He added that Bolt Kenya remains fully operational and committed to serving its driver-partners and customers across the country.

The fraudulent letter was sent to all drivers and customers. However, Bolt Kenya has guaranteed all of its partners that it will not close or scale back its operations.

“We would like to reassure our community that Bolt continues to operate normally in Kenya and remains focused on delivering safe, reliable, and innovative services while creating economic opportunities across the country,” Bolt said.

The clarification comes amid growing speculation online after the document was widely circulated on social media platforms.

It triggered concerns among drivers and customers who rely on the ride-hailing platform for daily transport and income.

Bolt is one of the largest ride-hailing platforms in Kenya, serving thousands of customers daily and providing income opportunities for drivers, riders and delivery partners across several towns and cities.

The digital hailing cab, which employs thousands of drivers and riders, has launched an investigation into the source of the letter.

“We are currently investigating the source of the fabricated document and will take appropriate action against the creation and dissemination of misleading information that misrepresents the company,” Bolt asserted.

The company has asked all driver-partners, customers and members of the public to disregard the circulating document in its entirety and refrain from sharing or amplifying it.

Even as it dismisses the closure claims, Bolt says it continues to invest in its Kenyan operations, including expanding its fleet of two-wheelers for delivery and boda boda services.

Already, Bolt has enrolled more than 1,700 electric motorcycles under its expansion plan as part of efforts to grow its presence in the market while supporting more sustainable transport solutions.

“For accurate information and official company updates, stakeholders are encouraged to follow Bolt’s verified channels and contact the communications team directly for clarification,” Kanyankole urged.
