‘No More Personal Images!’ – EACC Warns Officials On Public Projects Branding
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has directed all government officials to stop branding publicly funded projects with their names, images, portraits, symbols or those of political parties.
EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud, on Tuesday, June 23, warned that the practice amounts to abuse of office, misuse of public resources and a violation of constitutional principles on leadership and integrity.
The warning comes amid public concern over the branding of government projects by Governors, Members of Parliament, Members of the County Assembly, and other politicians to seek visibility ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
As elections draw closer, some politicians have resorted to personalising public assets such as ambulances, water bowsers, school buses and public buildings, which EACC now insists is against the law.
Mohamud noted that the Commission had received numerous reports that several politicians were branding public projects with their names for political and personal gain.
“Various reports received by the Commission indicate that certain political leaders have consistently branded publicly funded projects and programmes with their personal names, images and/or symbols,” the EACC boss revealed.
Mohamud disclosed that while acknowledging leaders in development projects is important, publicly funded projects belong to Kenyans and should not be personalised by elected or appointed officials.
He further warned that branding public projects by politicians undermines the Constitution and may mislead Kenyans into believing that such projects are privately funded or personal achievements.
“Branding of publicly funded projects amounts to abuse of office, misuse of public resources and unethical conduct contrary to Articles 10, 73 and 75, 201 (d) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010,” he added.

To address the growing trend, the EACC boss directed all state and public officers to immediately remove their identities from public resources, projects or programmes.
He also instructed public entities to take action to ensure that government projects and programmes do not bear the names, portraits, images or symbols of serving state officers during or after project implementation.
Mohamud said that where recognition is necessary, project branding should only identify the responsible government institution and clearly indicate whether they are funded by the county or national governments.
He warned that failure to comply with the directive could attract administrative or legal sanctions, adding that it will closely monitor adherence by government institutions and public officials across the country.
