[VIDEO] Delapidated State Of Ksh 3.9 billion Ngong-Suswa Road A Year After Commission
Motorists on the Ksh3.9 billion Ngong-Suswa Road are required to slow down and carefully navigate massive potholes that have formed along sections of the highway.
This raises new questions about the road’s state, despite the billions spent on its development.
A motorist’s now-viral video captured many massive potholes on areas of the 66-kilometre road, with some damaged sections appearing to have been removed in preparation for repairs.
However, the rehabilitation work had not begun by the time of the visit.

The damaged areas have prompted drivers to weave across the road to avoid potholes.
Some users are forced to reduce speed considerably to minimise the risk of damaging their vehicles as the bitumen continues to deteriorate.
Residents living near the affected sections claimed the road has remained in that condition for months despite signs that repairs were planned.
“Imagine, for two years the road has been like this despite the billions used here,” one resident said.
Another resident attributed the deterioration to the increasing number of heavy trucks using the road.
Now what do we say about this.
What you are looking at is the current status of the recently commissioned Ngong-Suswa highway….

He claimed that it was not designed to handle such traffic, although this publication could not immediately verify the assertion.
The Ngong-Suswa Road has been in use since 2021, although construction on some sections continued before the government announced the completion of the entire project in December 2025.

The 66-kilometre highway cuts across Kajiado North and Kajiado West sub-counties.
It was constructed at a cost of about Ksh3.9 billion to provide an alternative route for motorists travelling from Nairobi to Narok, Bomet, Kericho, Kisii and other parts of western Kenya.
At the time of its completion, the government said the road would ease congestion on the busy Nairobi-Mai Mahiu route while improving safety and boosting trade, tourism and economic growth along the corridor.
Government officials had also projected that the highway would spur investment, with land values expected to rise and new businesses such as petrol stations, markets and service centres emerging along the route.
The emerging potholes have now sparked concerns among road users over the durability of the highway and the pace of maintenance despite its importance as an alternative route out of Nairobi.
The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) had yet to provide an update on the rehabilitation works or respond to the concerns over the damaged sections by the time of publication.
