George Natembeya, Governor of Trans Nzoia and DAP Kenya deputy leader, has announced his withdrawal from the political party, citing political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.

During an interview on Wednesday, July 8, Natembeya stated that his decision stemmed from a disagreement with the party’s leader, Eugene Wamalwa.

According to Natembeya, Wamalwa refused to give him the opportunity to build DAP-K from a regional organization to a larger national movement.

“I requested Hon. Eugene Wamalwa to grant me the opportunity to expand DAP-K into a broader national movement,” Natembeya stated.

“Unfortunately, he declined. Consequently, I have no other option but to quit.”

The decision comes only days after the governor welcomed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other Linda Mwananchi leaders at his Trans Nzoia residence.

During the summit, the leaders resolved to form a new political organization ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to sources close to the leaders, the July 5 meeting brought together community elders from the western region and leaders who announced a political roadmap for the region ahead of elections.

Today, I hosted my brothers, Nairobi Senator Hon. Edwin Sifuna, Vihiga Senator Hon. Godfrey Osotsi, Kabuchai MP Hon. Majimbo Kalasinga, and Bumula MP Hon. Jack Wamboka at my Milimani home in Kitale for a consultative meeting.

“As part of that roadmap, they announced that a new political party will soon be unveiled to carry the movement’s vision,” a close ally of Sifuna revealed.

According to Natembeya, the leaders endorsed Sifuna to vie for the presidency in 2027 while he will concentrate on securing a second term as Trans Nzoia Governor.

“The roadmap will begin with a major Linda Mwananchi rally in Trans Nzoia on July 25, followed by the mother of all rallies in Bungoma County on July 26, where Edwin Sifuna will be crowned the Luhya leader before being released to focus on his national campaign,” stated political strategist Pauline Njoroge, who is also a member of Linda Mwananchi.

His announcement comes after months of disagreement within the DAP-K party, with Natembeya stating he planned to quit the party in 2025.

However, the party quickly dismissed the claims of rift within, stating that the two leaders, Wamalwa and Natembeya, were working together.

“For those of you who were preying on dividing our Party by driving a wedge between our party leader Eugene Wamalwa and our deputy party leader George Natembeya and DAP-K and TAWE Movement, now you have your answer!” the party stated in a statement in January 2026.
