“Total Ignorance!” – TWO Ruto CSs Clash Over Mt Kenya Voting in 2027
A schism has formed in President William Ruto’s Cabinet when Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome and Public Service’s Geoffrey Ruku disagreed on Mt Kenya’s voting dynamics ahead of the 2027 General Election.
On Thursday, July 8, 2026, Wahome rejected plans to partition the Mt Kenya region along eastern and western lines, claiming that such tactics harm Ruto’s efforts to unite the country.
In an apparent rebuttal to Ruku, Wahome stated that Ruto has constantly advocated for national unity and warned against politicians who promote splits within communities for political benefit.
“If we now take a community and start resubdividing the community, we are not building in the direction the head of state has taken in this country of uniting the country irrespective of the region that opposed him,” said Wahome.

“The president has been at the forefront to rally Kenyans against ethnicity and vision along ethnic lines. Started by bringing Raila into the government, and I support the broad-based government.”
She stated that politicians in Kenya’s Kwanza administration cannot preach national unity while fostering splits within communities, particularly Mt Kenya.
“For you to lead Kenyans, you need the unity of the nation; therefore, you cannot be for the unity of Kenyans and then start to preach division of a community,” Wahome stated.
“That is total ignorance, and I reject that trajectory.”

Speaking during an interview with a local radio station on Wednesday, July 8, Ruku argued that Mt Kenya East alone has enough votes to help deliver another term for the President.
According to the vocal CS, the region’s estimated two million votes are sufficient without depending on support from the Kikuyu community in Mt Kenya West.

“Our two million votes are enough, without asking for the Kikuyu vote, to make sure William Ruto is re-elected,” Ruku said.
He further outlined what he described as the region’s long-term political plan.
Ruku stated that after securing Ruto’s second term, leaders from Mt Kenya East would shift their focus to backing Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s presidential bid.
“In 2028, we shall have begun the journey of Kithure Kindiki becoming the President of Kenya because we also need to be on the resource-sharing side, not always on the receiving side,” he added.
