Adani Group Refutes Malicious Letters In Kenya, Threatens Legal Action

Adani Group issued a warning on Monday in response to reports of false statements involving bribery allegations in the ongoing Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) takeover discussions, which went viral.

The company, which is expected to run airport operations, described letters released denouncing the bribery allegations as false.

They also stated that those disseminating information about their alleged statements were acting maliciously with no justification.

Contrary to reports, the company maintained that it had yet to issue a statement regarding its business operations in Kenya.

‘’Certain vested interests with malicious intent are circulating multiple fraudulent press releases, including one titled ‘Adani Group Denounces Baseless Accusations and Threats’, related to our presence in Kenya,” the statement read in part.

“We categorically state that neither the Adani Group nor any of its companies or subsidiaries have issued any press releases related to Kenya,” the statement added.

As a result, the company has threatened to sue anyone who spreads false information about the Adani Group.

‘’We strongly condemn this deceitful act and urge everyone to disregard these fake fraudulent releases completely. We will take legal action against anyone involved in spreading false narratives,’’ Adani Group warned.

The Adani Group was responding to a recent report that suggested the company considered imposing action on people who participated in protests against the planned takeover of Kenya’s infrastructure as part of a deal with the government.

The statement also implied that the Adani group would name specific unidentified government officials who were corrupt and allegedly accepted bribes as part of the ongoing deal.

As a result, the group urged Kenyans to verify any business-related information with them before sharing it.

‘’We encourage the media and influencers to verify facts and sources before publishing or broadcasting any articles or news on the Adani Group,’’ the statement added.

Adani Group, an Indian conglomerate, is in advanced talks with the Kenyan government about a proposal to develop Kenya’s key infrastructure through public-private partnerships.

The Kenyan government explained that the move was motivated by the country’s limited fiscal resources as a result of its massive public debt.

The deal has previously elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans, with airport staff at JKIA downing their tools in protest.
