Kenyans To Receive New IDs Within 10 Days – Immigration PS Julius Bitok

The government has announced that Kenyans applying for national identification cards will only have to wait 10 working days to receive them.

Julius Bitok, Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services, made one of the most anticipated announcements on Monday, September 16.

Bitok attributed the recent development to the nationwide acquisition of live capture equipment at Huduma centers and National Registration Bureau (NRB) county offices.

“It will now take you not more than ten working days from the date of application down from at least 21 days to get your ID,” Bitok said in Machakos County during this year’s World ID celebrations.

“We want Kenyans to acquire their IDs as quickly and conveniently as possible.”

This year’s festivities, which aimed to celebrate and raise awareness about the importance of obtaining National IDs, were held in Machakos because the county has one of the highest numbers of young people eligible to register for IDs.

The county considers more than 31,000 youths to be due for registration.

The chip was introduced to protect a card’s uniqueness and reduce the possibility of fraud through forgery or tampering with another person’s identification.

Individuals who want to renew their cards, on the other hand, will not have to go through new biometrics.

The government also addressed concerns about the Maisha cards’ legality by ensuring that they meet International Civil Aviation Organization requirements for cross-border identification documents.
