‘Gachagua Assaulted Itumbi’ – Ichung’wah Reveals DP’s Abrasive Attitude
On Tuesday, September 17, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah reported an incident in which Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua allegedly assaulted Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi during the height of the 2022 election campaigns.
In an interview with Spice FM, Ichung’wah claimed that the incident took place at an unspecified State Lodge.
The Majority Leader described how the deputy president nearly assaulted Dennis Itumbi because he did not tweet what he expected him to.
“I don’t know what you would say of a person holding a higher state office, walks into a meeting at State lodge, grabs by the collar a junior officer by the name of Dennis Itumbi threatening him with physical assault within the precincts of State Lodge on the basis that someone who had no defined role until recently, is not tweeting the things you want him to tweet,” Ichung’wah said during an interview.

Dennis Itumbi was heavily involved in the Kenya Kwanza Campaigns at the time, and he played a critical role in President William Ruto’s election to the highest office in the land.
Ichung’wah was describing his perception of the deputy president’s vindictive nature.
He went on to provide additional examples of incidents in which the deputy president allegedly reacted emotionally when people stopped dancing to his tune or began associating with people he dislikes.
He gave an example of how Gachagua appeared to belittle his own MP, Njuguna Kawanjiku, by telling the entire world how much money he spent on his dowry and wedding, as well as the amount of time he spent at the ceremony.
“You have heard the Kiambaa MP narrate his ordeal and I can tell you members of parliament especially the ones from the Mt. Kenya region have harrowing stories of what they have had to go through,” he continued.
Kimani Ichung'wah: I have a national duty as the Leader of the Majority in the National Assembly, and I will not belittle my office by focusing solely on Kikuyu politics. However, as the Member of Parliament for Kikuyu, I pursue the interests of the Kikuyu people. When leaders… pic.twitter.com/JCabzwL7Qr

“I said the other day many of them shudder in fear because of this desperation and attempts to intimidate them.”
He also described another incident in which the deputy president used lewd language to refer to Baringo MP Florence Jematiah simply because she worked with Kiharu member Ndindi Nyoro.
Ichungwah claimed that the deputy president’s intimidation and manipulation tactics are intended to isolate the people of Mount Kenya.
According to Ichung’wa, Gachagua wants to use them for his own political ambitions, and anyone who steps out of line will face his wrath.
Ichung’wah also claimed that the deputy president was failing to carry out his mandate, which included communicating with the public about the government’s agendas and policies.
He went on to say that DP Gachagua prefers to complain and whine in vernacular stations when things don’t go his way.
“We have a situation where now we have a deputy president who has never patronized a single national TV station to articulate government policy,” Ichung’wah said.
“He has never been anywhere. defend any government policy, articulate what government was doing, inform Kenyans.
Ichung’wah continued; “The only time my good friend has been on TV or radio is vernacular radio stations and vernacular TV, not articulating what you are doing as government, but whining and crying about this or that.”
This, he explained, was one of the reasons he joined the 48 Mt Kenya members of parliament in presenting interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as their liaison to the executive.
