ACK’s Ole Sapit Warns Ruto Over Gachagua’s Impeachment Impact
Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) has advocated for the complete abandonment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment.
The archbishop urged President William Ruto and his deputy to engage in conversation, warning that impeachment would further split the country.
Ole Sapit spoke at Kenya Anglican University in Kanyuambora, Mbeere North, Embu County, on Sunday.
The archbishop cautioned that impeachment would create a disastrous precedent, polarising the country along ethnic lines and undermining national unity.
He has chastised the political class for leading the impeachment motion against Gachagua based on what he describes as selfish motives.
“The impeachment motion should be set aside and dialogue given a chance. The president and his deputy should sit and discuss their differences as leaders,” he stated.

He chastised President Ruto and his deputy Gachagua for failing to demonstrate leadership by giving dialogue an opportunity, claiming that they were elected to lead the country.
“As national leaders in this country, the best way to show a good example to Kenyans is by holding a mediation and solving their differences,” he noted.
The Archbishop stated that impeaching Deputy President Gachagua is not a top priority because many Kenyans require government services.

Archbishop Maurice Makumba of the Arch Diocese of Kisumu, the chairman of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, also criticized the political leaders for what he called selfishness.
“As political leaders in this country, you have the mandate to unite people not to divide people because of selfish agendas,” he criticized.
Archbishop Makumba exhorted political leaders to serve the people who elected them rather than engage in political activities for personal benefit.
It comes as Deputy Gachagua is scheduled to go before parliament at 5 p.m. to defend himself against 11 accusations before MPs vote.
