‘You Have No Empathy!’ – PS Omollo Slams Gachagua’s Illicit Alcohol Remarks
The Ministry of Interior has condemned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s controversial remarks accusing the government of purposely targeting Mt Kenya locals with illegal alcohol distribution.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo dismissed Gachagua’s charges on Monday, December 23, describing the former DP’s remarks as provocative and politically motivated.
According to the PS, the government does not manufacture, distribute, or sell alcoholic beverages, and the issue of substance abuse affects people from all walks of life, including parents and children.
“We take great exception that such grave national matters can be trivialized by one individual, on a church podium nonetheless, without empathy for the families that may be struggling with this crisis,” PS Omollo said.

Omollo added, “It is therefore in bad faith and disingenuous of Gachagua to turn around, after serving this country at the highest office, and lay such ludicrous claims on such a sensitive matter.”
The PS also urged the former DP to submit an official complaint and present any evidence he may have to investigators or law enforcement officers.
Addressing the press, Omollo advised Kenyans, particularly parents, to protect their children from hazardous narcotics, especially during the festive season.
Omollo’s response comes hours after the former DP criticized President William Ruto’s administration for allegedly enabling the distribution of illegal alcohol in the Mt Kenya region.
Speaking at a church service in Naivasha on Sunday, December 22, Gachagua accused the government of undermining his past efforts to combat drug and substance misuse by allowing their sale, notably in Mount Kenya.

According to Gachagua, the Head of State allegedly directed PS Raymond Omollo to order the reopening of all alcoholic establishments, including those that produce the beverages.

“The Interior Security PS was instructed by the President to reopen all those alcohol factories, and they were urged to sell the alcohol exclusively in Mount Kenya,” Gachagua claimed.
“It is not sold in Rift Valley or anywhere else. Yesterday, three people died in Bahati.”
“Since they forced me out of office, the President has ordered all the illicit alcohol that kills people to be brought here to destroy our young people.”
