Nyanza Lawyers Gang Up To Criticize Gachagua Over Remarks Against Gov’t

A group of young lawyers in Nyanza has protested former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s claims that the government was tolerating illegal brew consumption in the Mt Kenya region.

The Young Okil Kamaloka Association, led by its president Chabi Otieno, voiced worry about the remarks, calling them irresponsible and inciteful.

He further alleged that the state had directed key government authorities to allow the manufacturing, distribution, sale, and consumption of illicit brew in the region.

Otieno said it was unfathomable that the government, which is responsible for preserving its citizens’ lives, would commit such atrocities.

“Rigathi’s statement reeks of an admission that he was either involved in targeting citizens from his own region by commission or omission,” he said in Homa Bay’s Rangwe sub-county on the Eve of Christmas.

He also urged investigating agencies to summon Gachagua to officially file his complaint and present evidence for it.

At the same time, he encouraged Gachagua to stop inciting Mt Kenya residents against the government, particularly from church pulpits.

“His remarks on a pulpit should be denounced by every church. We also call upon religious leaders to advocate for the sanctity of their pulpits and ensure they are not used for divisive rhetoric.”

The activists emphasized that illegal brew and alcoholism are a national problem that transcends ethnic or regional boundaries.

They emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to fight the problem, including both government and community activities.

The young campaigners gathered during this joyful holiday to support their president, who was hosting a football tournament in the neighborhood.
