President William Ruto has given Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) Musalia Mudavadi, Aden Duale, and Salim Mvurya additional dockets in an acting capacity.

According to the changes announced on Saturday by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, Mudavadi, the current Prime CS and CS for Foreign Affairs, would also be in charge of the Ministry of Information, Communications, and Digital Economy.

Duale, the current CS for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, will now oversee the Agriculture and Livestock Development portfolio.

Meanwhile, Mvurya, who is in charge of the Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports Ministries, will serve as the interim Chief Secretary of the Investments, Trade, and Industry Ministries.

The new appointments follow President Ruto’s Cabinet reshuffle on December 19.

It saw Kipchumba Murkomen moving from Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports to lead the Interior Ministry, and Mvurya, formerly the CS for Investments, Trade, and Industry, replaced him.

Former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui was nominated to take over the Trade Ministry, which Mvurya led, while Mutahi Kagwe, a former CS in Uhuru Kenyatta’s government, was proposed for the Agriculture Ministry.

“… As the Cabinet Secretary nominees undergo the requisite parliamentary approval process, His Excellency the President has assigned acting Cabinet Secretaries to the vacant ministerial portfolios,” Koskei said in a statement to the press.

On January 14, 2025, members of Parliament will vet government appointees.

The Cabinet changes on December 19 came after President Ruto appointed Kithure Kindiki, formerly the CS for Interior, as Deputy President in October, succeeding Rigathi Gachagua.
