‘Shame On You, Governor!’ – Ichung’wah Blasts Natembeya While Castigating Gachagua

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has now linked the new wave of abductions to impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Ichung’wah claimed Gachagua had been assisting the kidnappings while blaming his boss, President William Ruto.

Months after being impeached, the Kikuyu lawmaker has continued to target his former ally-turned-foe.

The outspoken MP reacted angrily after Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya chastised the government for the continuous disappearances and abductions of youths.

He was addressing on Friday at the burial of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula’s mother, Maayi Nanyama, in Bungoma County.

The lawmaker confronted Natembeya and chastised him for the remarks, accusing him of orchestrating similar killings while serving as Rift Valley Regional Commissioner.

According to Ichung’wah, the Trans Nzoia Governor lacks moral legitimacy to lecture the administration on abductions.

This is because, during his time in the security forces, Kenyans were kidnapped and slain in Kerio Valley, and many bodies were thrown in the River Yala on his watch.

“Wakati mliua watu mkaweka River Yala, you (Natembeya) were the Regional Commissioner in charge of abductions and murdering Kenyans, wewe mwenyewe!” he stated.

“Shame on you, Governor! You cannot claim abductions when you were the key abductor and murderer of Kenyans under the previous regime.”

“You were a Regional Commissioner the other day when hundreds of people were kidnapped, abducted and killed in Kerio Valley and dumped here in River Yala. Kwani siku hiyo haukujua maisha ya wananchi ni maisha?”

The outspoken senator went on to accuse Natembeya of collaborating with Gachagua, whom he claimed of masterminding the kidnappings in order to tarnish his former boss’s reputation.

He accused the Governor of pursuing divisive and ethnic tactics, similar to the former DP, in order to alienate communities and promote divisiveness among Kenyans.

Trouble began when Natembeya, in his speech, questioned COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli’s belief that some people are fabricating their own abductions to generate chaos and blame the government.

“I say this with a very heavy heart, for a leader to stand here and tell you that people are abducting and killing themselves, I think it is unfortunate,” Natembeya had stated.

“It is not for this hallowed grounds! Our children are getting lost, are being abducted, and others are being killed, that is the position. We should not cover up the basic truths.”

“We want abductions to end; children are abusing people on the internet. That needs to change, but if it can’t change, people should not be killed or abducted because of that.”

In defense of Atwoli, the Majority Leader lambasted Natembeya, demanding him to come forward and report the abductors’ names to the country’s investigating institutions if he knows who they are.

“Abductions are there, Governor Natembeya if you know people abducting people you are an officer wa NGAO, you have been a Regional Commissioner, peana habari kwa DCI wachunguze wale wanashika watu…but don’t condemn Atwoli for saying some people are abducting themselves,” he said.

“Respect the Speaker, nimekuona mara mingi wewe, ati kila mazishi unaenda kutukana Wetangula.

“And you have no shame to even stand here and claim you have friends in this family; if Tim is your friend, he is the brother to Wetangula. Respect people and we will respect you back!”
