Gachagua Mourns Slain Nakuru Activist, Police Vow Intense Investigation
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has joined Kenyans in grieving Raymond Otieno, a slain Nakuru-based activist.
Gachagua issued a statement on X, expressing his sympathies to Otieno’s family and Molo locals.
“To the family of Raymond Otieno and the people of Molo, I share in your pain and grief. My deepest sympathies to you all,” he said on Monday.
Gachagua also praised Otieno, characterizing him as a “promising young man, a great human rights defender, and a champion.”

Otieno, often known as the “Molo President,” was found dead in Molo after allegedly being attacked with an axe by unknown assailants.
His body was located outside the gate of his rented flat.
Otieno was brutally assassinated on Saturday night at about 11 p.m. while he was on his way home.
Close associates allege he has received death threats from unknown people in the past days. Police stated they are looking into the murder.
On Sunday, Molo MP Kuria Kimani mourned the tragedy and urged the police to investigate.
“Dear constituents, this morning we have woken up to the sad news of the death of a youth leader, trailblazer and community mobilizer, Richard Raymond,” he said.
“I have known Raymond throughout my political career and he has been a true champion on issues affecting the youth, women and less privileged in the society.”

He added, “His contributions to the sociopolitical welfare of the community living within the larger Molo Constituency and Nakuru County by extension, have been profound and have impacted on many lives.”
MP Kimani asked the villagers who had turned out to protest to keep calm and give the investigative bodies time to perform their inquiries and bring those responsible to justice.
The residents attacked the Elburgon mortuary, took Otieno’s body, placed it on top of a car, and paraded it through town, demanding justice.
The irate crowd obstructed the Njoro-Molo Road with rocks and ignited fires.
