Kuria, Gachagua In A Fresh Riff-Raff For Mt Kenya Supremacy With Opposition Amidst
Moses Kuria, the Public Service Cabinet Secretary, accused Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of working behind the scenes to keep him out of the next Limuru III meeting, which aims to bring together leaders from the Mount Kenya region.
Taking to social media, the CS, without specifically mentioning Gachagua’s name, slammed the country’s second in charge as both men vie for Mt. Kenya kingpin status ahead of the 2027 elections.
While Kuria did not specifically mention DP Gachagua, his description was clear enough for witnesses to conclude that he was referring to him.
“I am aware that a very senior and powerful personality with prior experience in provincial administration is financing Limuru 3 and he has given instructions to Kioni that if I attend he will not finance,” stated Moses Kuria.
The Limuru III conference, which will be place on Friday, aims to bring together political hotshots from the Mt. Kenya region to discuss significant political issues affecting the region, such as leadership squabbles.
In addition to stating that Gachagua financed the event, CS Kuria said that it was planned by Azimio Principal Martha Karua, embattled Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, and former Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi, all of whom are members of the opposition coalition.
The promoters had previously said that the event was open to anyone who wanted to attend.
“This is an open invitation for anybody who wants to come and anyone who might not feel intimidated. We know there are those who cannot come because they are coming from the government,” the organisers stated.
“If you attend a meeting which will bash the government that you are serving you run the risk of being disciplined, but this is a meeting which has no exclusion at all including the Deputy President or even the former president because they come from the region,” they continued.
However, as the incident unfolded, Moses Kuria claimed that Kioni advised him that he was not welcome.
“Limuru has always been about the community not individuals and not politics. Co-convenor Jeremiah Kioni has publicly and privately informed me that I am not welcome for Limuru 3. He has said that I have invited myself,” stated Kuria.
Additionally, Kuria, who has previously claimed to be the most senior politician in Kiambu, has asked his followers to boycott the conference until it is officially convened.
“Limuru is a sacred and revered community event and I would not want any sort of confrontation there. Accordingly, I will not be participating in Limuru 3 and I wish to urge all community members to keep off until the meeting is properly convened by competent community structures,” stated Kuria
