Nairobi Among 5 Regions Set To Receive Heavy Rains, Met Department Announces

The Kenya Meteorological Department advised Kenyans on Thursday to expect severe rain in numerous parts of the nation, including Nairobi.

The weatherman indicated in his advisory that rainfall was forecast in a variety of places, including Nairobi County’s Central Highlands.

Rainfall is also forecast in Western Kenya, sections of Northwestern Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley.

“Isolated heavy rainfall events likely in these areas,” the Meteorological Department warned as it urged Kenyans to be cautious of potential risks associated with such rains.

Kenya Met also forecast intermittent showers in Machakos and Kajiado counties.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country was expected to have mainly dry, sunny weather throughout the day.

According to the weatherman, strong southeasterly winds of over 25 knots (12.5 m/s) were expected in the eastern part and Northwestern region.

Kenya Met’s new report comes a day after the Department revealed that rains were likely to diminish across the country.

In its Wednesday, May 15 weather forecast, the weatherman stated that the peak of rains occurred in April, and that no serious flooding was expected.

“Occasional rain is however likely over Western Kenya, parts of the Rift Valley, Central Kenya, & coastal strip. Game parks should generally be accessible,” Kenya Met revealed in its May 15 forecast.

Kenyans were also warned to expect high daytime temperatures of up to 30 degrees Celsius, particularly along the coast, in the north-east, and north-west.

Furthermore, nighttime temperatures were expected to drop below 10 degrees Celsius, particularly in some areas of the Central Highlands.
