Governor Sakaja Officially Opens Mama Margaret Uhuru Hospital
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has officially opened Mama Margaret Uhuru Hospital (MMUH) in Korogocho.
The hospital, with a capacity of 548 beds, was recently transferred from the National Government to the Nairobi City County Government and is now one of the county’s largest healthcare facilities.
Governor Sakaja told locals during the unveiling that the hospital will serve both Korogocho residents and the rest of the city.
He assured the community that the hospital would continue to provide high-quality services, dismissing concerns that the transfer would have a negative impact on performance.
Nairobi County’s Health CEC, Susan Silantoi, echoed the governor’s sentiments, stating that the move aims to improve healthcare services throughout Nairobi.
Geoffrey Mosiria, the County’s Chief Officer for Health Facilities Management, confirmed that the Mama Margaret Uhuru Hospital is fully equipped.
The facility, previously known as Mathare-Korogocho Level 5 Hospital, has 350 beds and provides specialised healthcare services for free or at a subsidised rate.
The hospital has in-patient wards, a 24-hour pharmacy, a kidney dialysis center, an intensive care unit, a burns unit, and operating rooms.
It also provides renal dialysis, radiology, tuberculosis treatment, mortuary and autopsy services, pathology, chemotherapy, and forensics.
