Nairobi’s Main Highway Closed For 10 Days As KENHA Starts Repairs

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Friday, June 14, announced the temporary closure of Uhuru Highway.

KeNHA indicated that the closure will affect the highway section between the University of Nairobi Roundabout and the Nairobi Expressway Exit or Museum Hill Exit along the Nakuru-bound carriageway.

This section of the road will be closed for ten days, from Friday, June 14, to Sunday, June 23.

According to KeNHA, the closure is necessary to allow for maintenance works on the specified section of the highway.

Motorists intending to use the Nakuru-bound section of Uhuru Highway were advised to seek alternative routes.

KeNHA has proposed several alternative routes, including Nyerere Road, Arboretum Drive, Riverside Drive, and Ring Road Kileleshwa.

Motorists were also advised to approach the affected section with caution in order to avoid obstructing the repair work.

“Follow the traffic signs and guidance in place as directed by police and traffic marshals on site,” KeNHA noted.

“The Authority remains committed to ensuring seamless connectivity to facilitate safe passage for economic prosperity.”

The announcement comes four days after the authority announced a traffic disruption on the Mombasa road.

KeNHA has attributed the traffic disruption to the construction of a mid-span footbridge foundation along this busy highway.

According to KeNHA, the road works will take place between June 13 and June 16, and road users should expect disruptions near Katani Road Junction and along the lanes leading to Mombasa.
