DP Gachagua Calls On Youth To Focus On Talent Monetization
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged young people to focus on monetizing their skills as part of the solution to ending unemployment.
Speaking at a forum titled ‘Mayouth Tuwe Set Initiative’ at Nyeri National Polytechnic in Nyeri County, the Deputy President stated that under the Kenya Kwanza Plan’s Digital Super Highway Pillar, art and creative economy are a priority in transforming talent into a livelihood.
While acknowledging that significant progress has been made in the fight against illicit brews, drugs, and substance abuse, he encouraged young people to take advantage of the thriving creative economy.
Gachagua fielded questions from youth and higher education students during the National Youth Forum on Saturday evening.
The Deputy President stated that the government is increasing its investments in the creative economy to boost job creation and entrepreneurship.
“The Kenya Kwanza Administration has five pillars, one of which is the creative economy and digital highway. We are monetizing art so that all artists, including content creators, dancers, actors, and others, can use their talents to earn money,” he said.
On my way to engage with young people at the Kenya Youth Empowerment Forum at the Nyeri National Polytechnic this evening, I acknowledged greetings and interacted with the People in Nyeri Town.

“We will continue to develop the young people because they are energetic, knowledgeable, and encouraging. I have a great deal of respect for young people, and I will continue to listen to and engage them.”
He stated that the Ruto administration is committed to empowering young people and creating opportunities in the sports and arts sub-sectors.
The Deputy President was joined by a number of leaders and young politicians at the event, which drew thousands of young people.
Gitonga Mukunji, the chairperson of the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association and MP for the Manyatta Constituency, was also present. Bahati, a musical artist and content creator, was also present.
On employment in the country, the Deputy President stated that the government is committed to creating opportunities.
He asked the youth to be available and focused, stating that their dreams are valid.
“Getting an internship is good progress and after two years there is automatic conversion of the terms of employment,” the DP said.
“I thank our President for making a firm decision on hiring teachers and making sure we go out of our way to ensure our children have enough teachers. We continue progressively within the limited fiscal space to absorb the teachers as we go on.”
He said the government is also looking into job opportunities in the Diaspora.
