EACC Officers Arrest Kisumu-Based Advocate and Clerk After A Ksh. 500K Demand

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a Kisumu-based High Court of Kenya Advocate and a court clerk for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Ksh.500,000 from a litigant.

Advocate Clifford Gwada and clerk Zakayo Wambogo are said to have accepted a bribe from a litigant while pretending to act on behalf of Presiding Judge Lady Justice Aburili.

The duo allegedly claimed that the Judge wanted the money as an inducement to render a favorable judgment in a suit she decided on May 17, 2024.

Lady Justice Aburili, who has since filed a statement with EACC, confirmed that she received notification that the funds had been withdrawn by Peter Warindu and Company Advocates.

Advocate Gwada works at the reported company, which was handed over to Wambogo and then transmitted to her without her knowledge.

“She interviewed the implicated Court Assistant and the Advocate in an open court during which they admitted having received the money and divided it amongst themselves,” a portion of the statement read.

They are currently being held at the Kisumu Railways Police Station pending further action.
