Part Of Mombasa Road To Be Closed For 8 Days After KeNHA announcement
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) announced on Saturday the eight-day closure of a section of Mombasa Road, affecting all motorists traveling from Nairobi to Mombasa and vice versa.
KENHA confirmed in a public notice that the affected road is Mombasa Road (A8), specifically the Mombasa bound lanes at Lake Oil Petrol Station.
The road is 4 kilometers long and begins just before Malili Town on the way to Mombasa.
Engineer Kung’u Ndung’u, the KENHA Director General, stated that the closure began on Saturday, June 15, at midnight, and that the road will reopen on Sunday, June 23, at 6 am.
According to KENHA, the closure is to allow for highway maintenance work on the section.
Only one lane will be closed, while the other will remain operational.
“During the closure of the Nairobi bound lane motorists heading to Nairobi will use the diversion as the Mombasa bound operates normally,” read part of the notice.

Furthermore, the Mombasa-bound lane is being repaired, so motorists heading to Mombasa will be diverted to the Nairobi-bound lane. This will reduce traffic on the busy road.
While road maintenance is underway, KENHA has advised all motorists who intend to use the section to proceed with caution to avoid accidents.
Motorists have also been asked to follow traffic signs and guidance as directed by police and traffic marshals on the scene.
“The Authority remains committed to ensuring seamless connectivity to facilitate safe passage for economic prosperity,” read part of the notice.
Earlier this week, a section of Mombasa Road was closed from June 13 to June 16 for maintenance.
The affected section was located near Katani Road Junction along lanes heading towards Mombasa Road.
The purpose of this four-day closure was to allow for the construction of the mid-span footbridge foundation on the busy highway.
