Gachagua Reveals Why Kenya’s Young Men Don’t Appear At Gov’t Job Interviews

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed the challenges that President William Ruto’s government faced as a result of the country’s increased cases of alcoholism after the regime took power.

Gachagua stated that when they took over the reins, nearly all shops in trading centers across the country were licensed liquor stores.

Other county governments encouraged the sale of illicit liquor.

The deputy president, speaking on Saturday, revealed that the government had previously announced plans to have the youth work on an undisclosed road, but no one showed up.

“We reached a point where we could not get young people to work. We had some work to murram some roads but some did not show up. Those who came left once they were paid,” he stated.

He went on to say that some of these jobs went to local women and young girls.

The Second in Command emphasised that this motivated him to confront the threat head-on and that the benefits are visible in the Mt Kenya region.

He stated that the Kenya Kwanza government was committed to ending the sale and production of illicit goods in the country, particularly in the Central region.

Gachagua also condemned other leaders who encouraged illegal trade and drug abuse among the youth.

“President William Ruto in his wisdom asked to lead the battle from the front and curb illicit brew and countering drug abuse. I must say we have done a lot of work,” he added.

He revealed that some women had informed him that their husbands had returned home and were now sober enough to carry out their daily activities.

Since the nationwide crackdown on illegal liquor stores, over 8,000 stores have been closed and the liquor confiscated.

Furthermore, the government, led by the DP’s spouse Pastor Dorcas, is providing counseling and rehabilitation to all youths who were previously addicted.
