Kalonzo Wants Mt Kenya Take Charge Of The Finance Bill Demonstrations

On Sunday, June 16, Kalonzo Musyoka stated that the Mt Kenya region should lead the demonstration against the increased taxation proposed in the Finance Bill.

According to Kalonzo, the region that has historically not participated heavily in opposition-led demonstrations will be the most affected if the Finance Bill is passed by the National Assembly as previously proposed.

Kalonzo, who was speaking at a church service in his ancestral home in Mwingi, Kitui County, stated that his hometown was not keen on leading protests.

The Wiper Leader, who is also an Azimio Principal, revealed, however, that he would participate in demonstrations that would be organized in Nairobi.

“The next time, if there will be demonstrations this time they’ll start in Mt Kenya because they are the ones pressed most,” he spoke of the Finance Bill.

He specifically warned that if the National Assembly approves the proposal to impose a motor vehicle tax, the region’s economy will suffer.

“The region has the most vehicles and they will be subjected to Motor Vehicle Tax,” he warned.

Kalonzo also accused President William Ruto of targeting the country’s middle class with punitive taxes.

“The problem we have in this country is the President taxing people but instead of serving the nation, they pocket the cash and live a luxurious life,” the former vice president remarked.

He claimed that some of Ruto’s close associates had accumulated wealth to the point of purchasing helicopters in cash.

The Wiper Leader had previously stated that it was the opposition’s responsibility to free Kenya from what he described as the punishing yoke of the Kenya Kwanza regime.

Kalonzo, Kenya’s 10th vice president, has already declared his intention to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 general election.
