Mombasa Demonstrators Face Region Police Boss As Schools Teargassed
On Wednesday, residents took to the streets in Mombasa to protest the Finance Bill 2024, resulting in chaos and running battles.
Peter Mugambi, OCS of Mombasa Central Police Station, denied signing the letter authorizing the Finance Bill demonstrations that were rocking the county.

While confronted by protesters on Wednesday, the OCS declared the protests illegal, explaining that the participants had yet to file a formal application.
As a result, Mugambi requested that the protesters who were confronting him present him with a letter before embarking on the demonstration.
“The OCS does not have a letter and if you want to do that (protest), you need to write a letter and take it to the station,” he directed.
“I am the OCS and I do not have that letter you are claiming you sent. I am., therefore, declaring that there should be no protests. Let us be peaceful. If you want protests, write a letter to my office.”

However, one of the protesters presented the OCS with a digital copy, which he denied receiving and signing.
“Do you know my signature? That does not belong to me,” Kagambi fired back.
Protesters calling for the complete rejection of the Finance Bill 2024 took to the streets of Mombasa to demonstrate while Parliament debated the proposals.
The police, however, retaliated by firing tear gas at the protesters, causing havoc throughout the coastal city.
Thousands of Kenyans protested the bill in Nairobi yesterday, the majority of whom were from the younger Generation Z.
However, police officers retaliated by firing into the air and using tear gas to disperse the crowds. Several people reported being injured during the encounter.
Overall, over 200 protesters were arrested, prompting the Law Society of Kenya to file a lawsuit against Nairobi Police Commander Adamson Bungei.
