Protester Engages A Police Officer In A Light Moment Amidst Arrest Spree
Amid the tear gas, water cannons, and drama, there was a light moment when a police officer interacted with arrested protesters.
Kenyans gathered in Nairobi’s central business district on Tuesday to protest the Finance Bill, which was introduced in parliament.
Protesters and police clashed repeatedly in Nairobi’s central business district.
In a video obtained by the Star, a group of protesters is seen being bundled into a police car as they are engaged.
One of those arrested confessed that the day was unlucky for him to be arrested.
“Today I’m in the news,” he said. “Are you happy with how Kenya is right now?” A protester asked the police.
“Ni ile mlichagua,” the police responded. Reiterating his words, the protestor added “Ni ile tu watu walichagua.”
The officer then directed the cameraman to ask more questions of the arrested protester before the police car drove away.
The Bill was tabled in the House on Tuesday, coinciding with the Occupy Parliament protests.
Several Kenyans have been arrested for their involvement in the #OccupyParliament protests.
Protesters gathered at various meeting points throughout the Central Business District were arrested by plainclothes police officers.
Those attempting to assemble outside the National Centre, National Archives, Kencom, and Jeevanjee grounds were quickly apprehended.
The protest took place before the National Assembly’s Finance and Planning Committee tabled the Finance Bill, 2024 report.
