[LIST]KDF To Receive Sophisticated Military Equipment From The EU To Help Combat Terrorism
On Monday, June 24, the European Peace Facility (EPF) announced that it had for the first time adopted assistance measures for Kenya’s Defence Forces (KDF).
The EPF Council revealed that it was advancing Ksh2.7 billion in the form of monetary assistance as well as sophisticated military equipment.
Kenya is being advanced the support as a means to enhance operational capabilities to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country.

The Council approved a €20 million assistance under the European Peace Facility to improve KDF operational capabilities. The support is part of the EU-Kenya Strategic Dialogue. pic.twitter.com/DfAljTxutb
This ensures that the KDF is capable of protecting civilians from both internal and external threats.
Kenya will receive military equipment such as tactical unmanned aerial vehicles, non-lethal interceptors and jammers, and systems for defeating improvised explosive devices.
Other equipment includes electronic warfare systems and cross-country tactical military vehicles.
Specifically, the equipment will be distributed to Kenya Army infantry combat units, as well as their combat support and service support units.
“The European Peace Facility will finance equipment and related supplies and services, including technical training where needed,” the Council noted.
“The assistance measure will also contribute to securing border areas and countering increased Al-Shabaab’s operations along the border with Somalia.”
Aside from weapons, the EPF will provide related supplies and services, such as technical training for KDF soldiers.
KDF will also have a medical post, with EPF funding the entire construction cost.
“In addition to that, to support the Kenya Navy’s efforts, naval marine units will be equipped with night vision goggles, life vests, and specific personal protective equipment,” EPF announced.
The funding and donations were secured through joint Security and Defence consultations held as part of the EU-Kenya Strategic Dialogue.
The European Union sees Kenya as a key pillar of regional peace and stability, which is why it is supporting it.
