“I will never push a wheelbarrow” – Governor Mutula Refutes Wiper Defecting Rumors
Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo complained on Sunday that some regional politicians were attempting to expel him from the Wiper Party.
Mutula stated in Kibwezi East that some people had informed Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka that he had defected to the ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance.
Mutula defended himself, claiming that there was nothing more to the story and that he remained committed to the Wiper Party.
“They keep taking gossip up (to Kalonzo) that I have gone while I categorically stated I will never push a wheelbarrow,” he expounded, dismissing the accusations.
Mutula assured Makueni residents that he would never join UDA and that any communication from his political opponents should be ignored.
Mutula’s statement came at a time when there were cracks in the county’s Wiper leadership.
Earlier this month, Makueni County Speaker Douglas Mbilu had to temporarily suspend House proceedings due to leadership disagreements within the majority party in the Assembly.
“Let us stop fighting as we are not in a political season and there is nowhere I have put campaign posters showing interest for any political seat,” Mutula stated.
He also commented that it was strange to see politicians campaigning when there were no functioning Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners to oversee elections in the country.
The Governor, who has been repeatedly accused of working closely with UDA, stated that he is not afraid of losing his seat in 2027.
“I did not get the governor’s seat by chance, I campaigned and so no one should threaten me and report me to my bosses,” he stated.
The first-term governor stated that if he is voted out in 2027, he will retire quietly to his Mbooni residence.
