Senator Osotsi Calls Gen Z Protests A Call-To-Action To All State Officials

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi believes the recent Generation Z-led anti-Finance Bill protests in the country should serve as a wake-up call to the government.

Speaking during Senate proceedings on Wednesday, Osotsi stated that the recent protests have created an opportunity for leaders to leverage, reflect, and reset.

According to the lawmaker, the youth have raised issues that they want addressed and have asked the government to implement them.

“This a moment we require to reflect and reset our nation, the Senate, National Assembly and all state organs in general so that they comply with the wishes of Kenyans,” he said.

“When we reflect, I think much reflection has to be pointed at Parliament.”

He urged his fellow members and the speaker to reconstitute standing orders so that all parliamentary group meetings take place before Parliament.

Meanwhile, Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni urged security agencies to use restraint when dealing with unarmed protesters.

He spoke on Wednesday during Senate proceedings.

“As we move forward we also demand accountability from our security forces,” stated Omogeni.

The senator noted that there have been instances in history where peaceful protests resulted in change.

Omogeni stated that if a protester breaks the law, they should be brought before a court rather than being shot.

Last week, anti-Finance Bill protesters broke into Parliament and set fire to a portion of it in an unprecedented outburst against the 2024 Finance Bill.
