Protest Victims’ Names Mounted On Crosses in Uhuru Park As Saba Saba Event Kicks Off

Participants in a memorial concert honoring protest victims on Sunday erected crosses bearing their names at Uhuru Park.

The concert will be held in the same location to mourn and honour all those who died fighting for the cause.

The Star obtained video footage of participants at the memorial concert mounting several white crosses with the names of victims killed during protests written in black paint.

Thousands of Generation Z and Millenials are expected at Uhuru Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Shujaaz Memorial Concert will also include people from outside the two generations who have pledged their support for the course.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, who approved the use of Uhuru Park for the memorial, said he would attend the concert.

The concert, which will be led by activist Boniface Mwangi, is scheduled to begin at noon and end at 7 p.m., according to organizers.

Officials said: Prior to the event, a prayer service will be held at the nearby All Saints Cathedral.

A group of young people have already been seen distributing flowers at All Saints Cathedral in preparation for their march to Uhuru Park.

Police have been heavily deployed throughout the city to maintain law and order.

Personnel were deployed in a variety of locations, including near Parliament and State House, as well as major roads.

Officials said this was just a precaution to avert any kind of crime that could take place at the event.

“We are there to ensure safety for all,” said a police officer.
