
Japhet Koome Resigns As President Ruto Appoints Douglas Kanja as The Acting IG
On Friday, July 12, President William Ruto announced the resignation of Japhet Koome, the Inspector General of Police.
In a statement, Ruto accepted Koome’s resignation as Inspector General of the National Police Service in order to facilitate a transition within the NPS’s top leadership.
Following Koome’s resignation, Ruto appointed Douglas Kanja as acting Inspector General of Police, pending the nomination, parliamentary approval, and appointment of Koome’s successor.

“The Head of State has, in accordance with Section 16 of the National Police Service Act, designated Mr Douglas Kanja, CBS the Deputy-Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service as the acting Inspector-General of the National Police Service,” Ruto announced.
In equal measure, the Head of State appointed Patrick Mwiti Arandu as Commissioner General of Prisons.
Arandu takes over from Brigadier John Warioba, who is going on terminal leave until the end of his tenure of office.
Similarly, President Ruto announced Noor Gabow’s redeployment within the Public Service.
Ruto appointed Eliud Langat as the acting Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service and James Kamau as the acting Deputy Inspector General for the Administration Police Service.
