“I Don’t Hear The Animals Complaining” – Gachagua Calls Out The Court For Stopping Ksh4.4 Billion Road Construction
During a church service on Sunday, July 28, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua expressed concern about an ongoing court case impeding the construction of the Ndunyi-Njeru-Ihithe road.
The DP, speaking in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, revealed that the government was taken to court over the Kish4.4 billion road, which, if completed, will connect Nyandarua and Nyeri counties.
It is expected to cut through the heart of the Aberdare National Park and Forest Reserve, raising concerns among conservationists and community groups.

DP Gachagua slams court decision to halt Ksh 4.4Billion Ndunyi-Njeru-Ihithe road construction over concerns of interfering with the wildlife ecosystem….. pic.twitter.com/Uea81QOD7a
The road’s construction began over a decade ago but was again halted by a court in 2009 following another petition by conservationists.
In response, Gachagua complained that the group was preventing development, specifically the linkage of the two counties.
“We were taken to court so that the road could not be constructed over concerns of interfering with the wildlife ecosystem,” he remarked.
“But if the animals were upset but the people are happy, which is better for the country’s greater good.”
He argued that the road was still in use and that animals were still living in the forest reserve and national park, which led him to the conclusion that the court case was unjustified.
Gachagua complained that it was unfair to halt the project when the animals had not been harmed.
The DP blamed the courts for failing to engage residents of the two counties in order to understand their perspectives on the road and whether or not construction should continue.
“I don’t hear the animals complaining or do they have a lawyer in court defending them?” he questioned.
He also accused some groups of dragging the government to court for ulterior motives.
He reassured the residents that the government was working to resolve the issue while construction continued.
Meanwhile, during the service, Gachagua cautioned Mt Kenya leaders who were fighting him in public.
The second-in-command argued that this would lead to the region’s demise and thus urged all leaders to work together for peace and unity.
He urged the leaders to learn from other leaders in the Rift Valley and the Nyanza region who did not publicly mock their regional leaders.
“I urge you to look at other communities, they do not share their secrets with the public nor do they fight each other,” he added.
The Deputy President also stated that he will hold a meeting with all relevant stakeholders next weekend to discuss issues affecting the nation.
