DCI Grills DP Gachagua’s Aides For Allegedly Sponsoring Goons During Gen Z Protests
Senior government officials close to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were grilled on Tuesday by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ Serious Crimes Unit about their alleged involvement in the sponsorship of goons during the pro-good-governance protests.
We’ve learned that the officers conducted the grilling at the deputy president’s Karen residence and that some Members of Parliament have been scheduled for questioning on the matter.
Among those who recorded statements was former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, who now works as a political advisor in the DP’s office.
Eric Theuri, a former Embakasi West lawmaker who now serves as the deputy president’s youth advisor, was also questioned.

Munene wa Mumbi, the DP’s private secretary, also recorded a statement as part of a wider investigation into what President William Ruto described as acts of anarchy and treason.
The Serious Crimes Unit (SCU), located at the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road, has also summoned allies of DP Gachagua for questioning.
They include Embakasi North lawmaker James Gakuya and his Embakasi Central counterpart, Mejja Donk.
The two are suspected of being part of a ring that was directly or indirectly involved in the infiltration of goons during the Gen-Z protests.
More MPs, as well as one former Governor, are said to be under investigation by the SCU, with all being required to record statements about the events that led to the unprecedented invasion of Parliament.
There is, however, no formal evidence proving their involvement in the protests.
The investigation into DP Gachagua’s officials follows reports of the deputy president’s impending impeachment.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga alluded to the same, warning that such attempts would be met with opposition.
“Where an impeachment motion is being considered against the deputy president, I wamt t make it very clear that that is an affront towards the mountain,” said Kahiga.
“It is an attack on us as a people, and we will not taking it lying, but it has its consequences. Whoever feels that that is the way to go, we kindly tell them to bring it on.”
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba also vented her rage on the X platform, calling out those who play tribal cards.
“Someone thinks bringing a tribal card against the DP and leaders of Mt. Kenya will diffuse the rot in Kenya Kwanza government as highlighted by the protestors…Presenting an impeachment against DP Gachagua is a decoy to shift the attention…”
