2 Former OCSs Handed Two Years Imprisonment Each For Ksh50,000 Bribery
Former KBC Police Station Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Chief Inspector Francis Bundi Wilson and former Joska Police Post OCS Inspector Kyalo Munyao Nthiwa were both fined Ksh100,000 or sentenced to two years in prison on Thursday.
This comes after they were implicated in a Ksh50,000 bribery scheme. They allegedly demanded a bribe from Peter Muhia Njega in exchange for the release of his cattle in 2019.
Tirus Ndambuki Musyoka, the former area chief of Lukenya, was also sentenced to pay a Ksh200,000 fine or four years in prison for accepting a Ksh50,000 bribe in a ruling delivered at the Nairobi Anti-Corruption Court.
The retired administrator was convicted of three counts of bribery and abuse of office.
His accomplices, Wilson and Nthiwa, were sentenced after being convicted of two counts of bribery.
Nairobi Anti-Corruption Court Principal Magistrate Isabellah Barasa convicted the three of accepting a bribe from Peter Muhia Njega in exchange for the release of his cattle held at KBC Police Station in 2019.
According to the magistrate, the officers’ detention of cattle and acceptance of bribes was illegal.
The court determined that the complainant was coerced into paying a bribe to have his cattle released, despite the fact that the accused illegally detained them.
The case adds to a growing number of incidents involving widespread corruption in government offices.
Corruption includes extortion by public servants who ask for kickbacks to do their duty, which many lament has become rampant.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta lamented that corruption costs Kenya more than Ksh2 billion per day.
Some of the most affected sectors include public procurement, administration, law enforcement, and the judiciary.
