Eugene Wamalwa Warns Governors To Learn From Convicted Lenolkulal
Eugene Wamalwa, the leader of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), has welcomed the sentencing of former Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal, who was found guilty of corruption.
Wamalwa has warned serving governors against corruption and urged them to learn from Lenolkulal’s fate.
“Corruption remains the greatest threat to devolution,” Wamalwa said in a post on X on Friday, August 30, 2024.
“May the conviction and sentencing of former Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal act as a deterrence and reminder to Kenyan governors, who continue looting county coffers and enriching themselves at the expense of their fellow citizens, that they shall be held to account.”

The former governor was fined approximately Ksh85 million after being convicted of illegally obtaining Ksh84 million from Samburu County coffers.
He was charged and convicted of a variety of offenses, including abuse of office, conflict of interest, and unlawful acquisition of public property.
Lenolkulal was sentenced by Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioka of the Milimani AntiCorruption Court.
Nzioka also ordered former Samburu governor and businessman Hesbon Jack Wachira to each pay a fine of Ksh 83,345,255, which reflects the amount unlawfully obtained from public funds.
Failure to pay could result in a four-year prison sentence.
Lenolkulal was also ordered to pay a Ksh1 million fine or serve an additional four years for the offence of conflict of interest.
Daniel Nakuo Lenolkirina, Josephine Naamo Lenasalia, Reuben Marumben Lemunyete, Linus Milton Lenolngenje, Paul Lolmingani, Benard Ltarasi Lesurmat, and Lilian Balanga were all sentenced.
They were ordered to pay a fine of Ksh700,000 each or serve four years in prison after being convicted of abuse of office.
Furthermore, the court disqualified Lenolkulal from holding any elective office for a period of 10 years.
