Moi’s Grandson Jailed Over Child Support

Collins Kibet, the late President Daniel Moi’s grandson, was sentenced to seven days in prison on Thursday for failing to pay child support orders by the court.

Kibet was arrested on Wednesday after a child support case was brought against him. He had neglected to support his two children.

Kibet received the ruling from Nakuru Principal Magistrate Kipkurui Kibelion for failing to meet his obligations to support his children with his estranged wife Gladys Jeruto Tagi.

Principal Magistrate Kipkurui Kibelion ruled that Kibet be remanded at Nakuru GK Prison.

The magistrate also ordered Kibet’s lawyers to calculate all outstanding child support payments and serve the defense lawyers within three days.

The case will be mentioned on September 26, 2024, to ensure compliance.

Kibet was arrested on Wednesday in Ongata Rongai after authorities searched for him for seven months.

Kibet went into hiding earlier this year after an arrest warrant was issued for him.

His problems began in 2021, when his estranged wife, Gladys Jeruto Tagi, accused him of failing to support their two children.

Kibet claimed at the time that he was broke and couldn’t afford to provide for his children. He also claimed that he was living off well-wishers.

He is accused of failing to support the children’s enrollment at Mustard Seed International School, which disrupted their education and caused them mental anguish.

Kibet’s estranged wife, Tagi, petitioned the court through her lawyer, Elizabeth Wangari, to sentence Kibet to civil imprisonment for ignoring court summons in the case.

Kibet’s lawyers have requested that the court grant him more time to comply, citing financial difficulties.

They also argued that Kibet was involved in the ongoing succession disputes over his father’s and grandfather’s properties.
