The ‘Kang’ata Care Programme,’ the brainchild of Murang’a County Governor Irungu Kang’ata, received the prestigious Gold Medal at the 2024 African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM) Innovative Management Awards.

Kang’ata Care was recognized for its innovative approach to healthcare cost and accessibility, which has made healthcare a reality for Murang’a County’s most vulnerable communities.

Kang’ata Care, which serves over 160,000 people, has transformed Murang’a’s healthcare system.

The prize elevates Kang’ata Care to the forefront of innovative healthcare solutions, establishing a high standard for public service projects.

The Gold Medal marks Kenya’s first triumph in the AAPAM awards at this level.

The country has already received attention for efforts such as the Huduma Center (ranked second in 2022) and eCitizen (ranked fourth in 2017).

However, Kang’ata Care’s victory is especially significant because it makes it the first Kenyan project to get the top prize in the renowned awards.

Speaking on this accomplishment, Governor Kang’ata praised his staff’s dedication and ingenuity in healthcare delivery.
