Gov’t Responds To Viral Social Media Silhouettes Depicting Ruto
Following weeks of becoming viral on social media, with shadows appearing as dark images resembling President William Ruto, Kenyans have been worrying about the destiny of the person behind the movement.
Similarly, many have questioned the government’s response to the silhouette maker and whether he or she violated any laws.
Raymond Omollo, the Principal Secretary for Internal Security, finally intervened, admitting that the government had no intention of taking legal action against the culprit.
Speaking during an appearance on Citizen TV on Wednesday night, December 11, Omollo disclosed that the administration has no intention of finding and charging the individual behind the silhouettes.
Instead, the PS demonstrated that the individual was utilizing his creative abilities, but only in a bad manner.
According to Omollo, the government would rather assist individuals in developing their creativity and using it to generate a meaningful income.

“The level of creativity of Kenyans is quite amazing and interesting. It demonstrates what is possible with technology. They can even look for ways to monetize it in a manner that is not ridiculing,” Omollo stated.
Omollo was replying to a question from one of the show’s viewers concerning the maker’s fate.
Kenyans on social media have recently been treated to silhouette comedy, in which the maker crafts art that mimics high-profile politicians in the country.
However, what is most striking about the painting is the mysterious maker’s goal to represent the leaders badly.

The administration appeared to have joined the bandwagon after Dennis Itumbi, chief of Special Projects and Creative Economy in the President’s Office, refuted the silhouettes with his own.
Itumbi’s painting instead employs silhouettes to highlight the president’s accomplishments.
The Constitution guarantees freedom of speech, allowing Kenyans to freely express their views on social media.
Recently, prominent government officials, led by Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, have criticized how the freedoms are used, particularly to criticize the government.
